Welcome to the club!
We have conquered our first novel, and are well underway with the next few, with many more lined up for the coming months. For details of all the brilliant upcoming choices and further meetings please see the GROUP MEETINGS page.
Also why not visit the PREVIOUS BOOKS page and see what we thought of the previous titles. Hopefully our views will inspire you to pick one of them up yourselves.
All the very best, and enjoy!

Two books I really enjoyed are The Piano Tuner by Daniel Mason and An Equal Music by Vikram Seth

Mike, Thanks for your suggestions of books you enjoyed. I know both of them but haven’t read either yet so it looks like the beginnings of a lively list of possible selections.
A coupleof books I’ve really enjoyed recently are “A Spot of Bother” by Mark Haddon and “The Two Caravans” by Marina Lewycka.
Out of interest I looked at the selections for Central Library’s own LGBT Reading Group. They are:-
“Magic Thinking” by Augusten Burroughs
“Kinflicks” by Lisa Alther
“The Story of the Night” by Colm Toibin.
I know Colm Toibin but not the other two. Does anyone else know anything about them?

I thought that Thursday’s (26th June 2008) first ever book discussion was a real success! I don’t think we’re every likely to come upon such an amusingly quirky read in the future but who knows……that’s one of the fascinating things about a reading group!!!

Oh dear I think we were very badly behaved!! I certainly was! Sending txt messages on my phone when I should have been attending! Perhaps next year we aught not to have a reading group so close to pride! Or am I just making feeble excuses! I guess it was that coupled with not really enjoying Common Murder! I’m sure we’ll all have more positive things to say at our next meeting!
